As a centre of knowledge and innovation, the University of Innsbruck is actively involved in shaping the digital transformation and sees it as its task to contribute to progress in the digitalisation process through research and knowledge transfer on the one hand, and to promote the formation of an enlightened digital society through critical reflection on technical and social developments on the other.

In order to meet the demands of digitalisation and successfully drive forward its own digital transformation, the University of Innsbruck set itself goals in the core areas of research, teaching and administration in its digitalisation strategy adopted in 2021.

Dig­i­tal Com­mu­nity UIBK

Digitalisation plays a central role at universities in the further development of research, teaching and administration. The UIBK Digital Community promotes the exchange of ideas and expertise within the University of Innsbruck and is actively involved in the ongoing process of digital transformation at the university.

Main research areas

Dig­i­tal Science Cen­ter (DiSC)

The Digital Science Center brings together academic staff from various disciplines with research activities in the field of digitalisation, including computer science as a basic science, and offers courses that impart skills in digitalisation.

Sci­en­tific Com­put­ing

The research focus Scientific Computing integrates all research activities of the University of Innsbruck in the fields of information technology (IT) and computer-aided research.

Digitisation projects

Dig­i­tal and social trans­for­ma­tion in higher edu­ca­tion

Since 2020, the BMBWF has been funding 35 cooperation projects across Austria to promote the digital transformation of the university and higher education system. The University of Innsbruck is the coordinator of a project in the computer science education cluster and is involved in a further 11 projects.

CodeA­bil­ity Aus­tria

The aim of the project coordinated by the University of Innsbruck is to establish digitally supported programming training for students of all disciplines at Austrian universities by 2025.

Exten­sion pro­gramme in com­puter sci­ence

The computer science extension programme is aimed at students and graduates who would like to expand their qualification profile through a scientifically sound additional education in the field of computer science.

Dig­i­tal Science elec­tion pack­age

The Digital Science elective package teaches programming skills as well as skills in data management and data analysis. It can be completed as part of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes; no prior knowledge is required.

Research data man­age­ment

The Service Centre for Research Data Management of the Central IT Service supports you in working with research data throughout its entire life cycle - from planning, generating and analysing the data to publishing and archiving it.
