Looking back on an eventful Summer Semester full of Research

Another summer semester full of exciting research and international networking is coming to an end! We can look back with pride on an intensive conference season in which our colleagues from the Institute of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation were represented on some of the most important stages in accounting research.

May: Kick-off in Bucharest
May began with the Annual Congress of the European Accounting Association (EAA) in Bucharest, one of the largest accounting events in the world with over 1,000 participants. Here, Assistant Professor Dr. Nadine Georgiou and Professor Dr. Sven Hartlieb presented their current projects "Accounting Conservatism with Zero-Debt Firms" and "Generalised Trust and Non-Audit Services".

June: From Dublin to Boston
In parallel, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sven Hartlieb took part in the 34th Audit & Assurance Conference of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) in Dublin and shared his expertise in the field of Audit & Assurance. Two further conferences followed in June: the 2024 Illinois International Accounting Symposium in Singapore and the 28th Annual International Symposium on Audit Research (ISAR) in Boston, where he spoke on current research topics.

July: Rotterdam
In addition, Ass.-Prof. Dr Nadine Georgiou took part in the 2024 European Network for Experimental Accounting Research (ENEAR) Conference in Rotterdam. There she presented the project "Income Statement Disaggregation and Management Performance Measures on Investors' Judgement", which she developed together with our former colleague Sabine Graschitz, Ph.D.

August: Conclusion in Bologna
We look back on a successful conference season, which concluded at the University of Bologna, which organised EUFIN 2024 this year. Ass.-Prof. Dr Nadine Georgiou presented her current research project "Accounting Conservatism with Zero-Debt Firms".

In addition to the intensive exchange and valuable feedback for our research work, the focus was on international networking. Exploring the local culture was not neglected either, which made the experiences at the conferences even more enriching.

Special thanks go to the BAFIT network for the financial support of our research trips. Without this support, such valuable opportunities would not have been possible.
