Multi-scale Transport and Exchange processes in the Atmosphere over Mountains – programme and eXperiment
Mathias W. Rotach, Manuela Lehner
ACINN, University of Innsbruck, Austria
TEAMx is an international research programme that aims at improving our understanding of transport and exchange processes in the atmosphere over mountainous terrain and at evaluating and improving the representation of these processes in weather and climate models. As part of the TEAMx programme, a one-year long observational campaign is taking place between fall 2024 and fall 2025. Observations are being collected in four target areas along a north-south cross section through the Alps from the Alpine foreland to Lake Garda, with one of the target areas located in the Inn Valley. TEAMx research at ACINN will focus on the three-dimensional structure of the mountain boundary layer, atmospheric turbulence, the interaction of mountain-induced circulations, air chemistry, surface-atmosphere interactions over glaciers, model evaluation, development of model parameterizations, and many more. In this presentation we are going to give an overview of TEAMx, the activities taking place in the Inn Valley and at ACINN, and the possibilities for students to participate in the field campaign and in TEAMx research.
