Aside from the regular staf exchange program, the following options of financial support are available to lectures and researchers:

The Marietta Blau Grant offers financial support for six- to twelve-month study periods abroad for doctoral or PhD students of Austrian universities. It serves to optimise their dissertations. Junior researchers are the main target group.

Objectives

  • To optimise the doctoral thesis by way of a continuous and specific long-term visit abroad.
  • To support young Austrian academics in the early years of their scientific career and their internationalisation respectively.
  • To strengthen Austria’s status in science and research.
  • To support young academics; therefore, the professional or academic career aspired with the support of the doctorate should be plausible. The grants explicitly does not focus on lifelong learning (no mid-career projects!).

Grant benefit paid

Monthly grant of 1,800 Euro. Partial grant; own funds need to be provided, no travel costs allowance.

The highly prestigious Marshall Plan Scholarship from the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation is aimed at students in all technical sciences who are considering conducting research in the U.S. for their master’s thesis, diploma thesis, or dissertation.
