Plagiarism check at the University of Innsbruck
On 5 January 2011, the Rectorate issued guidelines on "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice at the University of Innsbruck".
Safeguarding good scientific practice is a guiding principle that runs through all phases of scientific work. Correct scientific work is taught and practised at the University of Innsbruck through awareness-raising measures, appropriate courses, handouts and other initiatives.
In order to uncover misuse and protect the reputation of our university, a technical option for checking theses for similarities with internet sources, among other things, so-called plagiarism software, has been available since 2006.
This permanent local archiving provides additional assistance for assessors. When the work previously submitted in digital form is checked, a results report is created that shows matches with internet sources, among other things.
This results report is sent to the assessors for assistance, to the deans of studies for viewing and to the students for possible comments.

The submission via Turnitin must be made (max. 7 days) before the print version is submitted to the Examinations Office. In order to check all areas of academic and non-academic theses(diploma and master's theses including bachelor's theses), the "New Media" department Turnitin provides a separate access for each lecturer with a user ID of the University of Innsbruck.
The digital submission of dissertations for the purpose of checking for internet plagiarism has been carried out centrally via the PlagScan portal since October 2012. All theses uploaded there were transferred to the new Turnitin portal.
