Call for applications for performance-based scholarships at the University of Innsbruck for the academic year 2023/2024

In accordance with § 57 of the Austrian Federal Student Support Act (Studienförderungsgesetz, StudFG), performance scholarships are awarded to recognise exceptional academic performance at universities. Austrian citizens, citizens from EEA states and stateless persons granted equal status are entitled to make an application.

Applications must be submitted via the students’ platform LFU:online within the following period:

Students unable to apply via LFU:online can submit their application personally (application form) at the College Service Center, Innrain 52a, Ágnes Heller Haus, second floor, room 02N040, 6020 Innsbruck:

 

I. General requirements for applications

  • For each section of their study programme, applicants must not exceed the maximum study period during which they are entitled to receive a performance scholarship (§ 18 StudFG). However, valid reasons justifying an extended period of study may be taken into consideration (§ 19 StudFG).

  • New regulation for the calculation of the regular study duration due to COVID-19 of 09.09.2020:

  • Applicants must have a grade point average no lower than 2.0 for the examinations, courses and written pieces of work they submit for the performance scholarship.

  • The grade point average is calculated based on the individual grades. Overall grades are not used to calculate the grade point average.

  • Applicants must fulfil all general conditions to apply for a performance scholarship.

  • Applicants must have completed a minimum number of semester hours/ECTS-Credits in the year prior to the application being made. The number of semester hours/ECTS-Credits required differs and is set out in the special requirements of each faculty.

Important:
Students studying at the University of Innsbruck and at Innsbruck Medical University may attach all examinations completed between 1st October 2023 and 30th September 2024 to their application.
For the joint study programmes of the University of Innsbruck and the UMIT – Private University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology Gmbh (Bachelor’s and Master’s Programme in Mechatronics, Bachelor’s Programme in Economy, Health and Sports Tourism) an application can only be filed at the University of Innsbruck.

 

II. Special Requirements

Faculty of Architecture:

  • Bachelor: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.25.
  • Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Business and Management:

  • Diploma programme/Bachelor: Confirmation of at least 52.5 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Educational Science:

  • Bachelor: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.60.
  • Master: Confirmation of at least 30 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.40 .
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Biology:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.40. 
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    Outstanding achievements (for example, accepted scientific paper, presentation at scientific meeting) must be documented.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy:

  • Diploma programme: Confirmation of at least 30 semester hours in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 30 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 30 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics:

  • Bachelor: Confirmation  of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.50.
  • Master: Confirmation  of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.20.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 30 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    Confirmation from main supervisor that excellent progress has been made with the doctoral thesis.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 30 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Social and Political Sciences:

  • Bachelor: Confirmation of at least 52 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.55.
  • Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 30 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 30 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.20.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 16 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.25.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 16 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Engineering Sciences:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 45 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.50.
  • Doctorate: Confirmation that the doctoral thesis has been registered as well as a confirmation of at least 20 ECTS Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 20 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Economics and Statistics:

  • Bachelor's Programme Management and Economics: see Faculty of Business and Management
  • Bachelor's Programme Economy, Health and Sports Tourism:
    Confirmation of at least 52,5 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 18 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.20.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 18 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Catholic Theology:

  • Diploma programme/Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 60 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
  • Doctoral programme: Confirmation of at least 10 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
    Confirmation from supervisor that appropriate progress has been made with the doctoral thesis.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 10 ECTS-Credits.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 8 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.5.
    Confirmation from supervisor that appropriate progress has been made with the doctoral thesis.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 8 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Language, Literature and Culture:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.30.
  • Doctoral Programme: Confirmation of at least 20 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.20.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 20 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Philosophy and History:

  • Bachelor/Master: Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.25.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 20 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.25.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 20 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Law:

  • Diploma programme: Confirmation of at least 30 semester hours in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.30.
  • Bachelor/Master programme: Confirmation of at least 37.5 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.30.
  • Doctoral programme: Confirmation of at least 16 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.30.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 16 ECTS-Credits.

Faculty of Teacher Education:

  • Teacher Education (Bachelor / Diploma) and Islamic Religious Education (Bachelor): Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • Teacher Education (Master) and Islamic Religious Education (Master): Confirmation of at least 50 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.35.
  • PhD: Confirmation of at least 15 ECTS-Credits in the academic year prior to the application on all compulsory and elective modules of the PhD-Program with the exception of compulsory module 4.
    The grade point average must be not greater than 1.0.
    The dissertation is not included in the required 15 ECTS-Credits.
