AV-Studio equipment rental

Employees and students of the University of Innsbruck can borrow equipment from the audio/video rental service free of charge* for university purposes.

Please note that the number of devices is limited and early reservation by phone or e-mail is therefore recommended.

Equipment is usually not rented for longer than 7 days. A declaration of liability must be completed and signed on collection. The person who has signed the form or the respective institute is liable. In the event of loss, theft, malfunction or destruction of the device, the replacement value of an equivalent new device must be paid.

Devices can be collected and returned by prior arrangement during the opening hours of the AV Studio in the Digital Media and Learning Technologies Department.

*For external rental, there must be co-operation between the respective institution and the AV-Studio or the University of Innsbruck.

Current procedure for rental:

  • Contact the AV-Studio at least two working days before the desired collection (by noon at the latest) at av-studio@uibk.ac.at.
  • Please state in your enquiry which (and how many) devices you require and for how long you need the devices (the rental period is no longer than 7 days).
  • The equipment will only be reserved once you have received a confirmation email from us. You will also receive the necessary information on the collection and return dates and the collection location in this e-mail. Please contact us immediately if these dates are not possible for you.

Here you will find video instructions for using the camera and audio recording devices.

Equipment

The following equipment is available for rentals:

Sound recorders and accessories

  • The Zoom H2n is a small, compact audio recording device with excellent audio quality.
  • You can use it for interviews, for recording podcast episodes or as a dictation machine.
  • Accessories: SD memory card, USB cable and rechargeable batteries
  • Here you will find a short video tutorial for the Zoom H2n

Video cameras with tripod

Wireless microphone set

The wireless microphone set consists of a transmitter and a receiver unit. It is the ideal addition if you are borrowing a video camera for recording lectures or courses.

Throw microphone/microphone cube

  • During question-and-answer sessions in the lecture hall, you no longer have to wait for the microphone to be passed on - you can now throw the microphone across the room.
  • Please note: In order to be able to use the throw microphone, the lecture hall/seminar room needs the appropriate XLR connections.

Streaming set "mavia" (mobile audio-video interaction equipment)

The Mavia streaming set is intended for live streaming of lectures in rooms without sufficient AV equipment. The set consists of:

  • Camera (Marshall CV506)
  • Wireless microphone set (RØDE wireless go II)
  • Laptop (with the OBS software preinstalled)
  • Elgato Streamdeck (for operating the equipment)
  • Game Capture Card (HDMI to USB)
  • Ezcap Capture Card (SDI to USB 3.0)
  • The necessary cables

The devices are all supplied together in a case. All devices are labelled accordingly to make it easier to assemble the set.

Please note the specific lending conditions:

  • Contact person
  • Loan period

A technical contact person will be designated by the faculty, who will be trained by the Digital Media Department to look after and operate the equipment and will be responsible for these activities for the duration of use. This person will be responsible for the equipment (maintenance, setting up and dismantling, charging the batteries) as well as coordinating the on-site support services for the lecturers.

The concept allows for the sets to be loaned out on a semester basis and shared locally by several teaching staff during the loan period. As the university only has a limited number of sets (currently 27), requests for use by several lecturers are favoured over requests handed in by individuals.

In addition to live streaming, Mavia can also be used for recordings and web conferences.

Are you still undecided as to whether you should hold your course as a livestream or web conference?

Please contact the Digital Media and Learning Technologies Department, we will be happy to advise you.
