My research interests are in the role of viruses in aquatic ecosystems, specifically virus diversity in polar and alpine environments and the hosts they infect. I also use these isolated environments to understand virus-host evolution. My current project, VIRALP, aims to produce the first metagenomic assessment of virus diversity in an alpine lake across a whole year. I will link virus genomes to their hosts in-silico to determine which microbial groups may be targeted by viruses in a high altitude alpine lake, Gossenköllesee, in the Tyrolean Alps.
