The workshop organised as part of the FFG PhaseOut project at the Impact Days in Hallein (Renowave.at) on 23.10.2024 was attended by around 60 people who discussed the topic of heat pump technologies in the renovation of existing buildings with great enthusiasm.
After an introduction to the topic of heat pumps in the refurbishment of existing buildings (FFG PhaseOut project) by Fabian Ochs, UIBK, Markus Male, iDM, presented the R290 residential heat pump for multi-storey residential buildings developed as part of the project. Gordon Bilgeri, DuW, provided insights into the development of a decentralised R290 split DHW heat pump . The presentations were rounded off by a heat pump system comparison by Dagmar Jähnig, AEE INTEC.
In the intensive final discussion that followed, both technical details and economic and social issues were addressed. The realisation of demonstration buildings is planned for early 2025.
This year's Impact Days focused on innovative approaches to decarbonisation and sustainable refurbishment in existing buildings. The topics range from recycling in municipal construction to recyclable construction and energy-intelligent façades. Experts will share their insights and present pioneering projects, tools and materials.

FFG PhaseOut project
The aim is to design, optimise, implement, demonstrate and evaluate innovative, minimally invasive refurbishment solutions (thermal refurbishment and heating replacement) with heat pumps and PV in multi-storey residential buildings on 7 identical buildings. A comprehensive comparison of different technical solution variants based on modular and scalable building technology systems and multifunctional building components for the replacement of decentralised gas floor heating systems with (1) centralised, (2) semi-centralised and (3) decentralised heat pump solutions is carried out.
