PASSYS test cells
The Unit of Energy Efficient Building has two PASSYS cells for the stationary and dynamic measurement of façades. These cells can be completely balanced in terms of energy and thus a wide range of findings can be obtained about façades.
Façade elements measuring 2.75 / 2.75 metres can be tested with regard to the U-value and g-value. In addition, one cell has complete measuring equipment for daylight and artificial light measurements. The second cell has been optimised for thermal measurements. This means that we can also measure active and passive components integrated into the façade (such as heat pumps and ventilation units). A so-called cold box is also available, which can be used to simulate the outdoor climate in front of the façade (temperatures down to -15°C).
The laboratory is fully connected to Hardware in the Loop (HiL). With Hardware in the Loop, solutions such as heat pumps are operated in the laboratory and linked to a computer simulation in real time. This allows, for example, the complete behaviour of the building to be simulated on the PC, while only part of the façade is installed in the PASSYS cell in real operation. Hardware in the Loop offers a wide range of possibilities. For example, dynamic tests can be carried out and the development and testing of control systems can be advanced.
