Guiding Austria towards European Supercomputing

Philipp Gschwandtner will give an invited talk at an online workshop, organized by EuroCC Austria, on practical experiences with large-scale supercomputing access proposals. Previously handled by PRACE, the responsibility of offering large-scale computing power now falls to EuroHPC JU, a joint undertaking aimed at driving Europe's supercomputing landscape.

Austria is part of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (

). Both initiatives provide free access to European supercomputers for academic researchers and industry in 'open' R&D. In addition, pay-per-use access on the EuroHPC systems for industry will be provided in future. In order to support Austrian stakeholders in the usage of these European supercomputers,

EuroCC Austria – National Competence Centre for Supercomputing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence is organizing an information workshop about the new EuroHPC machines as well as the application processes.

The FZ HPC has co-authored a significant number of Austrian PRACE proposals over the past few years, all of which were accepted. In an effort to continue this focus with the EuroHPC JU, Philipp Gschwandtner will share practical experiences and insights gained while preparing three specific PRACE proposals from different fields of science (astrophysics, climate research, and theoretical chemistry). Furthermore, the talk will illustrate the most significant changes between computing access proposals of PRACE and the EuroHPC JU.
