Research Agenda

How do feelings of national belonging arise in encounters between different people, objects and places? What roles do bodies play for the production, maintenance and dissolution of national borders? How do communities of sexual belonging develop through social media spaces? My research shows how sites such as the body and globally circulating digital technologies shape feelings and experiences of belonging and membership and are key to the manifestation of borders. Using the intersectional study of nationalism, social and digital geographies and social media research, my work develops spatial perspectives to understand the persistence of social injustices.
