EX Excursion 2025
LSU aims to visit the work of Eladio Dieste in Uruguay.
Eladio Dieste (December 1, 1917 – July 29, 2000) was a genius Uruguayan architect and engineer who made his reputation by building a range of structures from grain silos, factory sheds, markets and churches, most of them in Uruguay and all of exceptional elegance. The work of Eladio Dieste is unrivalled and combines exceptional structures with the art of architectural spaces and materials.
We are currently in contact with architect friends and the Faculty of Architecture in Montevideo to plan the trip including to visit direct relatives of Eladio Dieste. The further planning is associated with the interest of students and their availability.
The travelling time will be influenced by the public holidays and the associated opening hours of the buildings. The last week in June and the first week in July are the most likely times for us to travel and are only recommended for students whose assignments, presentations and examination dates are compatible with the travel period.
Travel time: last week of June / first week of July 2025 (~10 days)
Travel costs: The price level in Uruguay is around the Central European average. We expect a daily budget of 100-150 euros per person. This covers transport, 3* hotels, entrance fees and meals in good restaurants. The total cost for 10 days will therefore be around 1200 + flight.
