The Sustainability Award is a renowned initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology (BMK). The event was co-organized by the Forum Umweltbildung. The award aims to highlight the contribution of universities to sustainable development.
Out of a total of 181 submitted projects, a jury nominated 12 projects across the categories "Learning," "Research," "Anchoring," and "Cooperation." The Peer Learning Activity (PLA): Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) of Universität Innsbruck was awarded Silver in the "Learning" category. The PLA impressed the jury with its holistic, innovative concept, which led to the creation of seven interdisciplinary courses in a team-teaching format. All the courses developed as part of the PLA have clear connections to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are characterized by a shared understanding of learning outcomes. A key feature of these courses is their interdisciplinary, cross-faculty co-creation.
The Gold Award went to the Co-CreART project (across multiple universities). The second Silver Award in the "Learning" category was given to the project "New Topics for ESD and Mathematics Education: Scientifically Grounded and Interesting" from Universität Graz.
A day full of inspiration and networking
In addition to the award ceremony, the event offered participants a variety of workshops and the opportunity to exchange ideas and network.
