Scientific support for the selection and evaluation of school-workshops regarding the prevention of extremism

Over the next three years, pupils of all school types throughout Austria are to be sensitized to the topic of extremism and their resilience to radicalization strengthened. Starting in April 2022, up to 3.000 workshops on extremism prevention will be conducted in schools by external providers. The IRKS and the Extremism Information Centre (run by the National Network for Open Youth Work) will provide professional support for the selection process of providers and offerings, as well as their evaluation. The Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) will be in charge of the organizational and technical implementation.

Supported formats will address conflict resolution and violence prevention, democratic debate culture and human rights, participation and political education, extremist groups and ideologies, radicalization processes, media literacy and conspiracy theories, discrimination, identity, coexistence and civil courage, as well as Austrian history and culture of remembrance. These initiatives aim to make a lasting contribution to our civil society and future coexistence.

The project is funded by the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF).
