Pathways to radicalisation
The research project examines how young people who have grown up in Austria become IS sympathisers. Where do these young people who end up in prison for participating in a terrorist organization radicalise? What role play the peergroup, mosques or the internet in their radicalization process? The study builds on the project “Deradicalisation in Prison” and aims to provide answers on how young people become IS sympathisers and what role different institutions, as well as socio-economic and socio-cultural factors, personal contacts and/or internet propaganda play in this process.
The study was funded by the Austrian Ministry of Justice.
