Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles from engineering, biology, and medicine to design and develop technologies, devices, and systems for the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of diseases.

The chair of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2024 (previously: Microelectronics and Implantable Systems) and has been headed by Prof. Dr. Daniel Baumgarten since July 2024. It is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Mechatronics.

We are dedicated to being a center for teaching, research and innovation at the intersection of engineering, biology and medicine to advance healthcare. We aim to foster a collaborative environment where students, researchers, medical and industry partners work together to solve complex medical challenges and improve human health and quality of life.

Our research focusses (but is not limited to) on electrical and magnetic phenomena, from measurement and stimulation through modeling and simulation to signal processing and analysis. In this context, we work on projects ranging from basic research to the development of industrial and patient-oriented applications.
