Academic Career
Daniel Baumgarten studied Computer Engineering with focus on Biomedical Engineering at the Technische Universität Ilmenau (Germany) until 2006. In 2011, he completed his PhD at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics at the same university. After postdoctoral positions in Ilmenau and at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, he worked as a junior professor and head of the Multimodal Data Analysis in Biomedical Engineering group from 2013 until 2016, again at TU Ilmenau. In 2016, he was appointed university professor of electrical engineering with a focus on biomedical engineering at UMIT in Hall i.T. (Austria). There he also headed the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Mechatronics. Since July 2024, he has been a Full Professor for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Innsbruck.
Daniel Baumgarten is President of the Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering (ÖGBMT) and Austrian representative in the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). Furthermore, he is one of the chairs of the technology platform Nanomedicine Austria and Member of the Advisory Board of Cluster Life Science of the Standortagentur Tirol.
