Andreas M. Kraxberger, MA, joined the Department of Media, Society and Communication as a university assistant at the end of 2023 and is currently pursuing a doctorate in political science. His research interests lie at the intersection of political communication, election campaigns and humour research, the role of social media and algorithms in these areas, as well as experimental methods in the social sciences. He is also the student representative of the doctoral programme "Politics, Power and Language".
He received his BA and MA in Political Science with honours from the Department of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck. Since then, his research has focused primarily on the relevance, impact and role of German and English-language political humour in modern media systems. His master's thesis, in which he analysed long-term changes in US political comedy and its reaction to recent crisis situations, was nominated for the Marianne Barcal Prize. He also worked as a research assistant on the FWF-funded project "Communicating the Covid-19 Crisis", in the course of which he analysed crisis communication by governments during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Together with Prof. Dr Martin Senn from the Department of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck, he has published an anthology on the historical development and possible future of various international orders, written in collaboration with students.
