Scientific Interests
I like the "experimental" approach, which means that I experimentally simulate conditions as they occur e.g. within the Earth´s mantle. This enables us to control parameters like pressure, temperature or the chemical composition of a system and to investigate how variations of these parameters are affecting tits behavior. By combining our results with findings from natural samples, we are able to improve our understanding of the processes that occur in the Earth´s interior.
My particular interest is to gain a better understanding of the behavior and abundances of halogens in the Earth´s mantle by performing high P-T experiments that simulate partial melting processes in mantle source regions. In doing so, we are able to investigate the halogen partitioning behavior at Earth´s mantle conditions, which allows us to gain a better understanding of the Earth`s halogen cycle.
I am also interested in the kinetics of metamorphic reactions and in the role of fluids in subduction zone, upper mantle and crustal processes.
