Thomas Karl is Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences. His research interests are in the chemical composition of the atmosphere and the interactions between the atmosphere and the Earth's surface. He focuses on trace gases and aerosols, whose understanding is crucial for climate predictions and climate change forecasting. A better understanding of the composition of the atmosphere allows climate models and air quality predictions in weather models to be optimized.

About
Thomas Karl is an expert in atmospheric physics and chemistry. He uses innovative approaches to quantify the chemical composition of the atmosphere and explores new experimental concepts that allow studying the exchange of trace constituents and their atmospheric transport and chemistry in the atmosphere. He uses these experimental techniques to test and improve atmospheric models.
