Requirements

Criteria for the determination of equalence: 

Admission to the master's degree programme may also be possible if a student has completed a bachelor's degree in a relevant related field. As part of the determination of equivalence, the following core areas of the completed bachelor's degree programme will be assessed:

• 42.5 ECTS-Credits Core Area: CM 1/2/3/5: Foundations of Educational Science:
  History and Terminologies I, II, III/IV
• 20 ECTS-Credits Core Area: CM 4/16: Educational Science: Epistemology and Foundations of Academic Study Methods / Research Methods of Educational Science
• 45 ECTS-Credits Core Area: CM 8/9/10/13/14/15: Foundations of Educational Science: Concepts and Subject Areas I/II/III/IV/V/VI
• 20 ECTS-Credits Core Area: CM 11/12: Communication and Action Skills I/II
• 12.5 ECTS-Credits Core Area: CM 18: Research Practice: Bachelor Thesis

In the event that equivalence has been established in principle but with certain qualifications missing for full equivalence, supplemental examinations may be required. These examinations must be completed during the master degree programme.

Recommended Course Sequence

The exemplary course sequence given below is recommended for full-time students beginning their study programme in the winter semester. The table shows one possible course sequence for the bachelor's programme and is not compulsory. Delays resulting from repeated examinations are not taken into account.

The standard duration of the study programme is 4 semesters or 120 ECTS-Credits, whereby according to the Universities Act of 2002, a workload of 1,500 (real) hours per academic year must be fulfilled, corresponding to 60 ECTS-Credits (one ECTS-Credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 hours).

Qualification Profile and Skills

The master’s programme is an advanced, specialised academic degree programme that covers the current state of knowledge in educational science with a focus on discussing the social reality of societal heterogeneity. The interdependencies of age, class, disability, gender, race and sexual orientation are understood as different dimensions of social inequality and hierarchies; this knowledge can be applied in various occupational contexts. Graduates are able to use their knowledge to formulate arguments and assessments and to approach problems from a practical and/or research-oriented perspective. Furthermore, they are capable of dealing with contingency and complexity and of applying their expertise in an active and formative manner under rapidly-changing conditions. They possess learning strategies that allow them to pursue professional activities in a wide variety of areas largely independently. They are capable of producing knowledge and developing originary, conceptual ideas and can contribute constructively to interdisciplinary discourse.

Expected Learning Outcomes

Graduates possess highly specialized knowledge in dealing with heterogeneity in educational occupations. They are able to demonstrate their abilities at the intersections of science, management and consultation through their capacity to formulate and substantiate arguments scientifically and to find innovative solutions to problems.

Future Prospects: Occupational Profiles and Career Opportunities

The master’s programme prepares students for professional activities in projects, organisations and institutions, for a doctoral study programme or other research-related activities, for activities involving managing, planning, analysing and advising in educational and social facilities, and for positions of responsibility in governmental and non-governmental organisations, locally and internationally.

Supplementary Programme Programme

Within the scope of the Study Programme, a Supplementary Programme corresponding to 45 ECTS-Credits may be passed. Admission to the Supplementary Programme requires the admission to or the having passed of one of the selected Study Programmes.
