FAQ

Graduates possess highly specialized knowledge in the fields of nano-science, material synthesis and material analytics. They are able to apply their knowledge in the field of advanced materials and at the intersections of physics, chemistry, material and nano-sciences by independently formulating and substantiating scientific arguments and finding innovative solutions to problems.

The Master's Programme Material and Nano-Sciences has an interdisciplinary focus. With emphasis on the design, synthesis and analysis of advanced materials, and with particular attention to nano-structured materials, the programme is suitable for graduates of the Bachelor's Programmes chemistry, physics, geo- and atmospheric sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering and environmental engineering.

It offers students broad fundamental training in the subject, introduces applied technical subject areas and features extensive practical exercise and laboratory work. The inclusion of nano-science, with its grounding in the fundamental disciplines of chemistry and physics, makes the programme complementary to the training of civil engineers in the area of traditional working materials. A comprehensive range of advanced modules provides graduates in-depth knowledge, preparing them for their intended careers and/or future doctoral studies.

Graduates possess broad fundamental knowledge of the structure and properties of crystalline and amorphous materials and knowledge of theoretical concepts required for the calculatation of material characteristics. They possess in-depth knowledge of corrosion, tribology and the practice of modern material synthesis and analysis. This comprehensive expertise is completed by multidisciplinary vocational skills (soft skills).

The interdisciplinary and research-oriented master's programme opens up a wide range of occupational opportunities for graduates, in particular material development in university and industrial research, material analytics and quality assurance, and material inspection and patenting.

The master's programme prepares students for activities in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the semiconductor industry, the metal production and processing sectors, in lighting engineering and optics, energy technology, sensor technology and other fields.
