The internationally oriented programme trains entrepreneurial thinking and action through innovation projects and provides practical insights into leading innovation ecosystems. Students acquire in-depth knowledge on the development and implementation of strategies and business models in the context of disruptive change and digital transformation.
The Master's Programme Strategic Management and Innovation addresses students with an entrepreneurial mindset, who are interested in founding and developing their own start-up. Further the program focuses on the ability to understand and develop strategies and business models, which address challenges and opportunities through digitalisation. The master's program prepares students to find creative solutions and develop and manage innovations.
The programme values critical thinking, openness, creativity and reflexivity to enable students to develop managerial and social competences. The programme emphasizes cooperative teamwork and the establishment of networks with companies and institutions. Students have the opportunity to apply their abilities and creativity at an early stage in strategy and innovation projects for small, medium-sized and large organizations, or in scientific research projects.

Proof of general university entrance qualification:
The general university entrance qualification for admission to a master's programme must be proven by the completion of a subject-related bachelor's programme, another subject-related programme of at least the same higher education level at a recognised domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution, or a program defined in the curriculum of the master's programme. To compensate for significant differences in subject matter, supplementary examinations (maximum 30 ECTS credits) may be prescribed, which must be taken by the end of the second semester of the master's programme. The rectorate may determine which of these supplementary examinations are prerequisites for taking examinations provided for in the curriculum of the master's programme.
The following qualitative admission requirements according to § 63a Para 1 Universities Act also apply:
- Ability to combine strategic, organisational and marketing-related knowledge as well as sound knowledge of finance and accounting, which are prerequisites for strategic management and innovation, with qualitative and quantitative methodological knowledge of economics; this knowledge is deemed to have been acquired if courses totalling at least 15 but no more than 25 ECTS-Credits from the field of internal and external accounting, 7.5 ECTS-Credits from mathematics and/or statistics and at least 12.5 ECTS-Credits from the fields of marketing, trade, strategy and corporate management, tourism/service management or administrative management/public management have been successfully completed.
- In the winter semester 2024/25, a fundamentally revised curriculum for the Master’s programme Strategic Management and Innovation will come into force.The Master's programme Strategic Management and Innovationand all other English-language Master's programmes at the Faculty of Business and Management have been fundamentally revised. The courses now include a more flexible range of (research) topics. One change is that the Master’s programme Strategic Management and Innovation and all English-language Master's programmes now have as an additional qualitative admission requirement a GMAT with at least 550 points or GMAT Focus with at least 525 points.
For graduates of the Faculty of Business and Management at the University of Innsbruck, the GMAT is waived for an overall grade between 1.0 and 2.8. This admission requirement holds in addition to the existing requirement of at least 15 but no more than 25 ECTS-Credits from the field of internal and external accounting, 7.5 ECTS-Credits from mathematics and/or statistics and at least 12.5 ECTS-Credits from the fields of marketing, trade, strategy and corporate management, tourism/service management or administrative management/public management.
Recommended Course Sequence (in progress)
The exemplary course sequence given below is recommended for full-time students beginning their study programme in the winter semester. The table shows one possible course sequence for the bachelor's programme and is not compulsory. Delays resulting from repeated examinations are not taken into account.
The standard duration of the study programme is 4 semesters or 120 ECTS-Credits, whereby according to the Universities Act of 2002, a workload of 1,500 (real) hours per academic year must be fulfilled, corresponding to 60 ECTS-Credits (one ECTS-Credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 hours).

Examination regulations
