Information for first-year students

Ciao!, ¡Hola! & Salut!: We warmly welcome you to the Department of Romance Studies and hope that you will feel at home with us! In Innsbruck, you can study French, Italian and Hispanic Studies both as a BA and as a teacher training programme. We then offer a Master's degree in each subject.

If you do not yet have any language skills in French, Italian or Spanish and still want to study one or more of these languages, Semester courses at the Language Centre will help you to acquire the necessary knowledge.

As the start of your studies is a challenging time, we have summarised some useful information for you below. However, please do not hesitate to make use of the student counselling service before/at the start of the semester (see below) and to contact the staff at the institute if you have any other questions.

A good command of French, Italian and Spanish is of course an important goal of the programme. Make sure you use ERASMUS offer to perfect your language skills.

However, studying Romance languages goes far beyond knowing grammatical rules. You will see that studying Romance languages, literatures and cultures opens up transcultural, multilingual worlds in many different ways, pushes boundaries, promotes networked thinking and much more.

Are you interested in career prospects after graduation? Take a look at our institute's Youtube-Channel! There you will find numerous 'What became of...' videos. We have also summarised career prospects here.
