Tyrolean Trade Forum 2023

Growth without regrets

On 4 May 2023, around 170 guests came to the Congress Park Igls to discuss the topic of "Growth without regrets" with top-class speakers. The event, now in its 13th year, was once again organised by the University of Innsbruck and sponsored by the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of Eurac Research, local authorities and the Raiffeisen regional association from South Tyrol also took part.

Everyone is talking about "sustainability", said Prof Günther Botschen from the University of Innsbruck in his opening statement. Translated and in a positive approach to the topic, this can read: "Growth without regrets". To this end, innovative companies were selected that are working intensively, actively and successfully towards sustainable development. According to Manuel Braun from Systemiq GmbH in Munich in his introductory speech, retail, understood as the "staging of attractive meeting spaces", is just as challenged as all other sectors and sustainability is an emotional topic. He continued: "We are all responsible for our footprint and want to improve it. Tyrol stands for trust and quality, which is always a selling point. Ultimately, it's about a sustainable circular economy, which is much more than just recycling.

Florian Krischan used the example of the company "Sehen!Wutscher", Europe's largest optician's shop, to show how sustainability can be implemented in practice and where the leverage can be applied. His credo: "Employee teams are the growth drivers" and it is about "creating space for new employees". In the end, it is their commitment, skills and personal enthusiasm that ensure that a company can grow sustainably and communicate this credibly.

Tyrolean Trade Forum 2022

Breathing new life into the brand

After a forced break of two years, the retail forum was finally able to take place again. High-calibre speakers shed light on how to "breathe new life into the brand" from different angles.

On 12 May, the 11th Retail Forum 2022 was once again held at Congresspark Igls. "This joint knowledge platform organised by the retail division of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Lab at the Institute for Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism at the University of Innsbruck is a prime example of successful cooperation between science and business. This time, the focus is on the question of how to breathe new life into brands. We are convinced that with the help of our speakers from various areas of science and business, we will be able to offer the guests of the Retail Forum many exciting and useful answers to this question," explained Dieter Unterberger, Chairman of the Retail Division of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, at the opening of the event.

The speakers shed light on the issue from completely different angles. Lucas Calmbach from KPS AG in Munich kicked things off. Calmbach dealt with the "Potentials and challenges for personalised marketing through digital transformation". Digitalisation opens up the opportunity to move away from the familiar scattergun approach and recommend customers exactly those products that suit them.

In the second presentation, the Managing Director of Frastanzer Brauerei, Kurt Michelini, offered a fascinating insight into how a forgotten regional beer brand can be revitalised. With bold innovations and consistent marketing, Michelini has succeeded in leaving the dusty image behind and attracting fresh customer groups to the traditional brand.

Katja Hutter from the Chair of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the University of Innsbruck addressed the topic of "Digital.Innovation.Future - People at the Centre". The professor recommended that not everything should be done in-house, but that new products, brands and services should also incorporate external perspectives, for example through innovation competitions.

Tyrolean Trade Forum 2019

At Congresspark Igls, the question of why "relationships" are of enormous importance in the world of retail was explored.

On 13 March, the Retail Lab at the University of Innsbruck organised this "knowledge platform" for the tenth time together with the retail division of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce at Congresspark Igls. Under the motto "Being instead of appearance, deep structure instead of surface", experts from theory and practice explored the question of how real brands and strong organisations can build lasting resonance with their target audience.
