Our demonstration of ion-photon entanglement over 101 km of fiber was published in Physical Review X Quantum

Our work in which we demonstrate ion-photon entanglement over 101 kilometers of fiber was published in Physical Review X Quantum. Congratulations to the team!

Our paper: "Multimode Ion-Photon Entanglement over 101 Kilometers", V. Krutyanskiy, M. Canteri, M. Meraner, V. Krcmarsky, B. P. Lanyon, PRX Quantum 5, 020308 (2024). DOI: https://doi.org/10.1103/PRXQuantum.5.020308.

A Synopsis article was written to accompany the paper in Physics: How to Speed up a Quantum Network

Our work was published back-to-back with the work of another team, based in Munich, in which they too observed entanglement between a single atom and a photon that had travelled over 101km of optical fiber! While our atom was an electrically trapped calcium ion in Innsbruck, theirs was an optically-trapped neutral Rubidium atom in Munich. When combined, our works open up the possiblity of entangling our atoms between Austria and Germany!
