Your individual user authorisation (c-number plus password) is used to access services at Central IT Service (ZID). You need it to start your computer, to open your mail programme, to access information on the intranet and to use VIS, which contains very personal information. You should therefore always treat this access data as strictly confidential.

The family friendliness of the university has been recognised several times excellent. The team at Family service is on hand to answer any questions you may have about parenthood, children, childcare and caring for relatives. The services on offer include information and advice, flexible childcare, holiday childcare programmes, childcare at university events, places in the crèche and kindergarten and a babysitting exchange.

The University of Innsbruck has a logo and a special corporate design. Templates for e-mail signatures and PowerPoint presentations are available for download. In addition, Graphic & design service and Cultural service of the Public Relations Office (BfÖ) offer business cards and comprehensive services (consulting, design, printing, etc.) for the design of invitations, brochures and posters as well as customised solutions for websites. As an employee of the University of Innsbruck you have the possibility to access the internet and intranet.
In the interests of careful handling of the University's resources, you must ensure that you use these access points and your computer at the University with the necessary care.

In addition to the various security measures of Central IT Service (ZID), it is essential that you also contribute to data and IT security at the university through your own behaviour.
With 15 simple steps to improve PC security, the ZID offers a simple and easy-to-understand introduction to this topic and demonstrates how you can make your computer workstation much more secure with little effort.

On their first day at work, new employees receive work instruction from their line manager. This consists of basic instruction and specific instruction for the office, laboratory or workshop.

  • Ergonomic design of the workstation: correct positioning of the table and chair in relation to the window, height adjustments and the ratio of table to chair height, positioning of the screen and lighting conditions and if you are in a laboratory or workshop: Equipment set-up, floor conditions and space requirements
  • For laboratory & workshop: Work equipment, working materials, personal protective equipment and appropriate use

The University of Innsbruck is a legal entity under public law whose organisation is regulated by University Act 2002. This also regulates the university's study and labour law.

All employees hired since 2004 are subject to the Collective agreementfor employees of Austrian universities as well as the internally concluded Company agreements.

In the web portal VIS you will find all administrative applications of the University of Innsbruck. You need an active user authorisation to log in.

If you have been hired as part of a job advertisement, you will be accompanied by a mentor at the beginning of your employment. This colleague has the task of introducing you to everyday university life alongside your supervisor and providing you with advice and support.

Please enquire with your supervisor about your mentor if you do not know who will take on this task for you.

Your salary is transferred on the 15th of each month.

The two special payments (= 13th and 14th salary) are split over 4 dates and paid out together with the March, June, September and November salary.

Your payslip can be viewed at VIS under the "Personal data/salary slips" tab.

You can find the contact details of all employees in the university's personal directory. Simply click on "Search" in the top right-hand corner.

Please inform your line manager immediately if you are unable to come to work.

In the event of illness, your line manager can request a doctor's certificate from the first day of sick leave. If the sick leave lasts longer than three days, a doctor's certificate must also be submitted without a request.

You can apply for special leave for certain reasons (e.g. marriage, birth of own children, change of residence). You can find more information on this, including the form, at Homepage of the personnel department under the heading "Special leave".

Medical appointments may only take place during working hours if the urgency or opening hours of the appointment mean that it cannot be completed in your free time.

Inform your line manager in advance about your absence and its expected duration. At the request of your superior, you must provide confirmation of the duration of the doctor's appointment.

To ensure that you have all the qualifications and skills you need for your work and can continue to develop personally, Personnel development offers the following opportunities for training and further education:

  • University of Innsbruck further education programme; it is designed as an annual programme and is published as an online version in July each year

A statutory probationary period of one month applies to new hires. During the probationary period, the employment relationship can be terminated unilaterally by either party without stating a reason and with immediate effect.

The University of Innsbruck offers flexible working hours to all employees where their work allows:

  • Academic staff: free time management, a tool for voluntary documentation of working hours is available at VIS
  • General staff: flexitime, working hours are recorded electronically with a chip
  • Managers: free time allocation

Your line manager will contact you on the first day to agree your working hours.
