Why this reorganisation?
The separation of the two subject areas allows for a more targeted specialisation during the Bachelor's degree and makes it easier for students to decide on a subsequent Master's course. Students benefit from customised courses that are optimally tailored to the requirements of the industry. For those interested in a future as an engineer, the new programmes provide a comprehensive and specialised education that integrates both technical expertise and sustainable perspectives.
Civil engineering: technology meets sustainability
Civil engineers shape the built environment and are responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of structures such as buildings, bridges, tunnels and protective structures. Innovative technologies, sustainability and economic efficiency take centre stage.
Main focus of the degree programme:
- Structural engineering (concrete, steel and timber construction)
- Structural analysis and strength theory
- Geotechnics
- Traffic route construction
- Hydraulic engineering and urban hydraulic engineering
- Surveying
Environmental engineering: Sustainability as a guiding principle
Environmental engineers help to develop ecologically sound solutions and conserve resources. They plan, design and operate sustainable projects, taking into account technical diligence and economic feasibility.
Focus of the degree programme:
- Biology, chemistry, thermo- and fluid mechanics
- Waste and resource management
- Energy-efficient and sustainable construction
- Environmental geotechnics
- Transport and infrastructure planning
- Hydraulic engineering, hydropower and urban water management
- Metrology, surveying and GIS
A degree programme with a vision
Both degree programmes place great emphasis on sustainability and climate responsibility. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in mathematics, geometry, computer science, technical mechanics, hydraulics, building physics, materials science and construction management. In addition, elective subjects offer the opportunity to specialise in individual interests.
Detailed information on the new degree programme structure is expected to be available from April 2025.
