I am studying Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the University of Innsbruck. Towards the end of my bachelor's degree, I took the sustainability elective package (30 ECTS) in addition to my main degree programme out of personal interest. The topic of sustainability has always been very close to my heart, which is why I was delighted to be able to expand my construction-related knowledge with the additional programme offered by the University of Innsbruck.
As the construction industry is responsible for a significant proportion of CO2 emissions, I wanted to learn more about how this industry can also use fewer resources, save greenhouse gases and ultimately make an important contribution to our future. Since March 2023, I have also been able to pursue this idea as a team member of the newly founded Green Office - Campus Technology team. In addition to the technical tasks, I am also gaining new experience in the field of social sustainability and advocating for more diversity and exchange at Campus Technik.
The degree programme in Innsbruck offers insights into both traditional civil engineering and environmental engineering. By combining both fields of study, an idea of both fields can be conveyed at an early stage and subject-specific knowledge can be built up. This also makes it easier to decide on the subsequent Master's programme.
Thanks to the manageable and remote Campus Technik, you quickly get to know new people from other faculties and can exchange ideas. You can also quickly cycle from here to the Inn for a study break or spend your lunch breaks in the university garden.
The opportunity to gain an insight into both classical civil engineering and environmental engineering ultimately convinced me to come to Innsbruck. Of course, the location of Innsbruck as a city in the Alps also played a major role in my decision. The city itself offers many opportunities to pursue mountain sports and enjoy mountain panoramas with friends alongside my studies, and there are also plenty of cultural events on offer. In addition, Innsbruck is home to many different nationalities, which makes for a colourful mix of languages and cultures, so you always learn something new. 😊
