Didactic Focus
What it's all about:
The SPB "Didactics" deals with research in numerous content areas that are anchored in the curriculum and taught at INTRAWI. These include teaching and learning in the areas of language competence, general and specialised translation, literary translation, interpreting, language and translation technologies and translation-oriented cultural studies. Research in this area serves not only to develop academic theory, but also to ensure quality assurance in teaching and professionalisation in the various types of translation.
More specifically:
Didactic research into language mediation in its various forms pursues an interdisciplinary approach and integrates findings and methods from numerous disciplines. In addition to translation studies, psychology, which provides important foundations for research into learning processes and the relevant psychological factors (e.g. motivation, emotions, etc.) is particularly important; general university didactics, which deals with the framework conditions and fundamental educational policy and educational science trends that characterise university teaching and learning; language acquisition research and language didactics, which provides findings for research into the teaching and learning of languages for later translation and interpreting; literary and media studies, which provides insights for research-led teaching in the translation of literary and audiovisual texts; and sociology, which can be used to research enculturation processes in professional profiles and their relevance for didactics.
