A way out of one-way traffic (AvE)
Funding: Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe AG (IKB) Research funding 2019
Funding period: 04/2020 - 12/2020
Project description:
The market for convenience food, such as pre-cooked meals from supermarkets, takeaway and delivered food, is growing. This is also accompanied by an increase in the associated disposable packaging waste.
Funded by the IKB research grant, the volume of waste and the resulting material flows from the convenience food sector in Innsbruck are being analysed.
The results will enable the waste management sector to prepare efficiently for the future volume of waste from the convenience food sector. In addition, the requirements for reusable systems will be analysed. This should facilitate the successful introduction and further implementation of any reusable systems for convenience food.
It remains to be seen whether single-use packaging will continue to contribute to waste growth or whether reusable solutions will enable circular economy approaches. However, the volume and composition of waste will definitely change.
