Mission Statement

The University and State Library of Tyrol is the information centre at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck.

As a University Library  we make a significant contribution to the quality of research, teaching and study. In line with the university's objectives, we promote social development and create spaces for free, creative and critical thinking.

As the largest academic library in western Austria, we support research, work and education in the region. As the State Library , we collect and preserve cultural heritage and thus contribute to the cultural identity of the province of Tyrol.

The University and State Library has a wide range of assignments:

  • We acquire printed as well as electronic media and value both formats as meaningful complements.
  • We catalogue media and make them available via search systems. In this way, we contribute to ensuring the quality of information.
  • We provide professional and committed support in the search for and acquisition of literature and information.
  • We offer reading and learning spaces as well as we facilitate encounters and communication. With our educational programmes, we promote information, reading and writing skills.
  • We advise university members on the publication of their research results and offer them the opportunity to publish open access.
  • As a memory institution, we preserve the media entrusted to us and make selected holdings accessible to the public in digitalised form.
  • We embrace new developments with openness, creativity and a willingness to learn, organise change processes responsibly and sustainably and thus contribute to the success and reputation of the university.
