The Community Interpreting university course is aimed at bilingual or multilingual people who wish to train and develop their skills, techniques and methods as community interpreters and want to use and apply them in their work with public authorities, public institutions and organisations.

- General basic knowledge of interpreting
- Knowledge of interpreting modes, techniques and strategies
- Information on preparation and follow-up for an interpreting assignment (research skills)
- Knowledge of the role of a community interpreter (role awareness, distancing, dealing with conflicts, compensation strategies)
- Awareness of one’s own limits and possibilities
- Basic knowledge of structures and processes in different fields of operation
- Knowledge of framework conditions of interpreting missions

- …who already work as community interpreters or want to work as community interpreters without subject-specific training (e.g. hospitals, police, public authorities, child welfare services, Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA), NGOs etc.)

Requirements
- Knowledge of the German language (B1)
- Knowledge of at least another language relevant to community interpreting (CI) (first language or at least level B2 acc. to the European Framework of Reference)

Mag. Mag. Maria Helene Oberhofer
Department of Translation Studies
Maria Oberhofer completed a degree in Translation and Interpreting (German, English, Russian) at the University of Innsbruck. Since 2011 she has worked as a freelance translator and conference interpreter, as well as an interpreter in the field of Community Interpreting. Since 2016 she is additionally a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck, where she trains conference interpreters. Moreover, since 2017 she has been involved in the professionalization of interpreters and the training of professionals in the field of Community Interpreting.
Mag. Mag. Katharina Redl
Department of Translation Studies
Katharina Redl studied Translation and Interpreting (German, French, Russian) at the University of Innsbruck. Since completing her studies in 2008, she has worked as a translator and interpreter in various fields. Since 2014 she has been involved in professionalization measures for interpreters and since 2016 in the training of professionals in the field of Community Interpreting. Since 2019 she has also worked as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck, specializing in the Russian language.

Registration
General Information for the Registration for Continuing Education Programmes.
The decision on the admission of applicants is made by the scientific management of the university programme. Persons who have been admitted to the continuing education programme and have paid the course fee will be admitted to the University of Innsbruck as non-degree students (“ao. Studierende”) by the Rectorate.
Enrolment is carried out independently by the applicants at the Admission Department.
Graduates of the university course Community Interpreting have the possibility to be registered on the list of lay interpreters in Tyrol.
