May 19th, 2014, Boltzmanngasse 16, 1090 Vienna
Four staff members of the American Corner Innsbruck were invited to visit the U.S. Embassy in Vienna for a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Austria Alexa Wesner and some training in programming, resources, and background on American Corners.
The morning was spent with John D'Amicantonio (Information Resource Officer), who gave insights into the background, history, and general idea of an American Corner. He went on to train the staff members in finding, using, and passing on information with the means available, being online and print resources. The training was done in an interactive manner in order to allow staff members to ask question, form ideas, bring in their own thoughts, and all with new programs and events for Innsbruck at the back of the head.
Ambassador Alexa Wesner had kindly agreed to meet with the interns and was very interested in what happens at the American Corner in Innsbruck, what needs to be done, and how she herself and the Embassy could be of aid. The American Corner hopes to welcome Ambassador Wesner in Innsbruck some time in the future.
The afternoon was spent with more discussions for which Jan Krc (Public Affairs Officer) joined the group.
The staff members got new insights into what their obligations, opportunities, and engagements are, learnt more about how to use their recourses well, and have gained on ideas, motivation, and energy thanks to all the people involved in Vienna and Innsbruck. All of this will allow the interns at the ACI to help organize more and better programs and events in the future.
