Due to the pandemic situation of 2020, Canada was the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2021 for the second year in a row. To celebrate this, the 10th edition of the Maple Movies Festival Tour, which takes place every two years in Germany, is dedicated in particular to remarkable cinematic adaptations of works by Canadian authors – and highlights, of course, the diversity, the creative richness and the constantly changing political and social realities of a country with many languages and even more cultures.
Thanks to a cooperation of the Canadian Embassy in Austria, the Canadian Studies Centre at the University of Innsbruck and the Leokino, selected films from the Maple Movies Festival Tour have now been brought to Innsbruck for the first time. The program includes important films by emerging directors, award-winning Authors’ Cinema, one classic, and a feature-length selection of short films by Indigenous filmmakers who have confidently and passionately brought long-marginalized narratives and perspectives to the screen in recent years.
