Welcome to POPBIO 2018 in Innsbruck

31st Conference of the Plant Population Biology Section of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (GfÖ)

May 3rd - 5th 2018

 

 

POPBIO 2018, the international meeting of plant population biologists and ecologists, will be hosted by the Department of Botany and the Alpine Research Centre Obergurgl, University of Innsbruck. We particularly invite young scientists to present their new results.

Leading experts will give keynote lectures to stimulate discussion and outline the challenges of population biology for the next years.

 

Report

117 scientists from 15 nations participated in this year's  conference of the Plant Population Biology Section of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (GfÖ). The conference was organized by the Departement of Botany of the University of Innsbruck and the Alpine Research Centre Obergurgl.

Participants had the opportunity to present their research in one of the five main topics -  Seeds, germination, seedling recruitment, seed dispersal; Global change biology; Evolutionary ecology, (epi)genetics and (epi)genomics of adaption; Interactions: competition, facilitation, allelopathy & Biological invasions - via a talk or a poster. The sessions were opened by key note talks of leading scientists of the respective topic. Students were also encouraged to present their work, which was in the end awarded via a special competition for best talks and posters.

Finally, an excursion in a nearby high mountain valley rounded the conference off.
