Fabian Dielmann was born in Munich, Germany. He studied chemistry at the University of Regensburg and carried out his doctoral studies in the group of Prof. Manfred Scheer. Part of his PhD studies were completed in the group of Prof. Malcolm Chisholm at The Ohio State University and with Prof. Régis Réau at Université Rennes. In 2011, he received his PhD with a thesis on the synthesis of polyphosphorus compexes and their use in supramolecular chemistry. He then joined the group of Prof. Guy Bertrand at the University of California Riverside and the University of California San Diego as a Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellow working on a project involving small molecule activation with stable singlet carbenes and nitrenes.

In 2013, he started his independent scientific career at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster as a group leader and was supported first by a return fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, then by a Liebig Fellowship (FCI) and the Emmy Noether Program of the DFG. After a visiting professorship at the Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, he was appointed University Professor of Organometallic Chemistry at the Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck in 2020.

His research interests include diverse topics in the field of molecular inorganic chemistry, in particular phosphorus chemistry, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis.
