ACINN, University of Innsbruck, Austria
The World National Governments’ approval and subsequent publication of the Synthesis Report in Interlake on March 20, 2023 marked the end of the 6th IPCC assessment cycle. The Synthesis Report summarizes the assessments of the three Special Reports on +1.5 (SR1.5, 2018), Climate Change on Land (SRCCL, 2019) and The Ocean and the Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC, 2019) as well as the three Working Groups’ Reports on the Physical Science Basis (WG1, 2021), on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability (WG2, 2022) and on the Mitigation of Climate Change (WG3, 2022). G. Kaser contributed as a Review Editor to the SROCC and the WG2 report and has helped the Austrian Government in its review contributions to the Synthesis approval. The seminar presentation will briefly introduce the IPCC, its mandate and its working processes, go through selected core findings in some of the individual reports and concentrate on the synthesized key messages on the present state as well as on future scenarios of climate change and its consequences.
Georg Kaser is a retired Professor for Climate and Cryospheric Research at ACINN-LFUI, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Geo and Atmospheric Sciences, and presently the Vice President for Natural and Technical Sciences at the Austrian Science Fund FWF. Since 2003 he had served as a Lead Author to the IPCC AR4 and AR5 and attended several UNFCCC COPs, the Paris one among others in 2015.
