ASPROSOLUTION

ASPROSOLUTION

(acronym for Asproparthenis Solution) is a joint project of University Innsbruck, AGRANA Research & Innovation Center GmbH., AGES GmbH (Department of Sustainable Agriculture) and AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH), to assess the potential of the entomopathogenic antagonist M. brunneum MA 43 (formerly named BIPESCO 5) in Asproparthenis punctiventris control in infested areas in Lower Austria.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (Austria, BML; DAFNE 101749).

ASPROSOLUTION aims to confirm the potential of Metarhizium and provide an effective, sustainable and cost-effective alternative for controlling the sugar beet weevil. A holistic control trial using an extended trap-groove system with included pheromone traps, as well as the use of the entomopathogenic fungus in spray application, is planned. It is also envisaged to utilise the endophytic potential of M. brunneum to protect sugar beet. In co-operation with the partners AGES and AIT, a frequently asked question on the "Mode of Action" of active substances will be answered. An attempt will also be made to correlate the degree of latent M. brunneum infection with the composition of the bacterial intestinal biota (microbiome) of the host.
