Russia’s Aggression Against Ukraine: Motives, Interests and Geopolitical Implications
The talk will focus on imagined and real causes of the war in Ukraine, war aims of both parties, chances for a negotiated settlement, reactions by the global West to the war and the geopolitical implications of this war of aggression.

Gerhard Mangott is Professor of Political Science with a specialization in the field of International Relations and Russian studies. He is also teaching at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. His main research areas beyond Russian affairs are great power relations, strategic arms control and non-proliferation. In late January 2024 his new book on the Russian war against Ukraine will be published in German language (“Russland, Ukraine und die Zukunft”).
