Szedlacesek: Distribution and diversity of Mortierellaceae in calcareous glacier forefields. -An isolation-based approach
Mortierellaceae are cosmopolitan soil inhabitants and an essential part of the soil core microbiome. Many species from the Mortierellaceae family are known to endure harsh environments, including highly exposed and nutrient-depleted habitats like glacier forefields. Recently deglaciated areas are highly interesting from an ecological perspective since they allow us to investigate the establishment of pioneer microbial communities and soil development in early stages.
In this talk, I will focus on the distribution and diversity of Mortierellaceae across four calcareous glacier forefields (Grießen, Marmolada, Tsanfleuron, and Dachstein) based on an isolation-driven approach. The results show that glacier forefields harbor members of Mortierellaceae that are typical for these environments.
