Egidio de Bustamante

... is Senior Lecturer at the Unit for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Innsbruck.


Born and raised in Brazil, Egidio has, however, developed his higher education abroad. He graduated in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro but soon after continued with an International Masters in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies from the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) in Castellón, Spain. He then followed with the PhD in the same program. During his PhD, Egidio conducted a research stay at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, focusing on Human Rights.

 

 

At UJI, Egidio was a co-facilitator of the Intercultural Seminars I, II, III and New Tendencies in Peace and Conflict Studies courses. Egidio has been a visiting scholar at the International Masters in International Studies (MAIS) at the University of San Francisco, USA, and has also taught at and worked for the Postgraduate Program in Conflict Transformation and Peace with an emphasis on Emotional Balance at Paz & Mente in Florianópolis, Brazil. Before holding the position of Senior Lecturer at the Unit for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Innsbruck, Egidio also taught in Innsbruck as guest lecturer.

 

Egidio is an active member of the DEEP (Dialogue, Empathy, Ecology and Peace) Network, part of the Global, Decolonizing and Semillero Circles. His current research interests are: Peace, Peace Philosophy, Peace Education and Pedagogy, Conflict Transformation and Nonviolence, Philosophical Anthropology, Humanistic Psychology, International Development Discourse, Social Movements in Latin America and Buen Vivir, and Queer Studies.

 

In his free time, Egidio likes to learn new recipes, cook, dance 5rhythms, and is on the lookout for attending Theater of the Oppressed, Theater for Living and/or Improv workshops!
