05.06.2024: Sco­ping Nuclear Futu­res in Times of War and Cli­mate Change

Abstract

Nuclear weapons policy is expected to be evidence-based and policy makers as well as scholars argue that the scope of possible nuclear futures is determined by the material features of the present security situation, lessons from the past as expressed in specialized language necessary to match specic realities and expressed by experts in a neutral fashion. This lecture will reassess and challenge all those parameters in light of primary sources and surveys from across the world, conducted on the basis of funding that carries no conict of interest. In doing so, it will show which particular practices shape nuclear futures in a time of war and climate change.
