Research topics: Theoretical and experimental analysis of neurocognitive and neuroemotional structures and processes in face cognition; neurocognition of posttraumatic stress disorder; psychological and neuroscientific basics of autism; neuropsychology of driving ability; music memory systems with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease; risk factors in patients with transient ischemic attacks; psychological investigations into chronic tinnitus and pain; testosterone reactivity and social stress; health behavior of patients in cardiac rehabilitation; web-based intervention programs for fatigue in cancer patients; ambient light and human psychophysiological performance; cause-effect relations between sleep, stress and the human immune system; investigation of psychological barriers with men’s communication about their sexual lives in a clinical setting; effects of auditory and psychosocial factors on the quality of life of patients with hearing implants; etc.
Organization and moderation of scientific conferences: Organizer and moderator of the Symposium Visual Neurocognition and of the Symposion Neurocognition, both held in Innsbruck 2005. Co-organizer and moderator of the 6th Scientific Conference of the Austrian Psychological Society 2004 in Innsbruck and co-organizer of the 19th Meeting of the Austrian Society for Neuropsychology 2017 in Vienna. Member of the scientific review boards of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th (2016) Conference of the Austrian Psychological Society.
Professional and academic service: Past member of numerous advisory boards (e.g. faculty advisory board, vice rector of studies advisory board) as well as numerous academic committees (e.g. study admission committee, several habilitation and hiring committees). Presently I am member of the ethic review board, the curriculum advisory board at the department of psychology, vice chairman of a habilitation committee, and I am responsible for a special study admission program for psychology at the University of Innsbruck. Furtheron, I am member of the review board of a national funding agency, member of the scientific advisory board of the Austrian Society for Neuropsychology and member of the editorial board of the Innsbruck university press (iup). After all, I am also reviewer of international scientific journals (e.g. Experimental Gerontology).
Teaching: Since 1986 I hold lectures and seminars in an increasingly wide range of psychological fields (General Psychology, Personal and Differential Psychology, Research Methods, Biological Psychology, Contemporary Approaches in Psychology) and at different levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD). Some special teaching topics: Lectures: Biological Psychology (I, I and III), Special Chapters of the Biological Psychology, General Psychology II (Perception, Cognition and Action); Seminars: Cognitive Neuroscience, Social Neuroscience, Neurocognitive and Neuroemotional Basics of Face Cognition, Theoretical Neuropsychology, Consciousness and Brain, Consciousness Research, Trauma and Brain, etc.
