Myths around Black Brazilian Women from the Perspective of Black Feminist Theory

Djamila Ribeiro is a Brazilian writer, journalist, philosopher, blogger and online-activist. With her latest books Quem tem medo do feminismo negro? (Who's Afraid of Black Feminism?, 2018) and Pequeno manual antirracista (A Short Anti-racist Handbook, 2019) she contributed significantly to feminist and anti-racist theory.

Ribeiro received her masters degree in Political Philosophy from the Federal University of São Paulo. She is the coordinator of the Sueli Carneiro editorial Seal and the collection Feminismos Plurais (Plural Feminisms) that aims at publishing black writers’ works at affordable prices and in accessible language. Ribeiro was Deputy Assistant of Human Rights for the city of São Paulo in 2016. She works as a professor of the journalism department at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and as a columnist for Marie Claire Magazine and Folha de São Paulo newspaper. In 2019, she was awarded the Prince Claus Award, granted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and considered one of the 100 most influential women in the world by the BBC, the same year.
