Maria Anita Stefanelli, PhD (Edinburgh) has been full Professor of Anglo-American Language and Literature (Università Roma Tre) and is now Senior Professor (Roma Tre) and Research Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. Her interest in American poetry covered, through essays and books, W. Whitman, E. Dickinson, W. C. Williams (Figure ambigue, Rome 1992; The Rhetoric of Love, Rome 1993 and Navigare la letteratura, Rome and Palermo 1995), Eliot, Lowell, Derek Walcott and Seamus Heaney (Italian Heaney, Florence 2009). Editions were published on City Lights Pocket Poets and Pocket Books (Rome 2004), Kenneth Patchen’s visual poems (in book form, Forme spettacolari, Rome 2008) and on “Beat” in Italy (Routledge Handbook on International Beat Literature, 2018). She also published widely in the field of North-American Theatre from the nineteen-sixties experiments and the classics (essays on Performance Theater, O'Neill, Albee, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, David Mamet). Her interest for women’s studies has concerned writers like Susan Sontag and Canadian Erin Shields (see an edition entitled Performing Gender and Violence in Contemporary Transnational Contexts, Milan 2016). More excursus on feminine cinema concern Shirley Clarke, Sofia Coppola, Léa Pool and Judith Thompson. She has also focused on portrait via an edition of Tullio Pericoli’s Many Becketts (Florence 2008). She has been a member of the Board of Letterature d'America and Quaderni del Dipartimento di Studi Americani, has served as a member of the Fulbright Binational Commission Italy-United States (2004–2015) and is founding member (2014) and Vice-President of World Center for Women's Studies (University of Buffalo). In 2020 she coedited, with Alessandro Carrera and Fabio Fantuzzi, the volume Bob Dylan and the Arts. Songs, Film, Painting, and Sculpture in Dylan’s Universe (Rome, Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura). For Bordighera Press she has published an essay on Italians on Emily Dickinson (2018) and Manhattan Irish Hunger Memorial (2019), for Taylor and Francis an essay on Marisa Labozzetta’s Sometimes It Snows in America (2021).
