Research information database - FLD
The “Forschungsleistungsdokumentation” (FLD) is the research information system (FIS/CRIS) of the University of Innsbruck. It includes research-relevant achievements such as publications and lectures, but also many other forms of research contributions by academic staff (e.g. research-related contributions in social or other electronic media, audiovisual media contributions, research data, etc.). The FLD data is also supplemented with research-relevant information from other internal databases (e.g. project database, patent database).
By integrating the FLD data into a university portal or into the homepages of the institutes, research and its results are made accessible to a broader public.
The core tasks of the Office for Research Information and Intellectual Capital Reporting include database maintenance and quality assurance for the services recorded in the FLD. The database forms the basis for the reporting system required by the Austrian Universities Act UG 2002. Various key figures and reports are created from the data, which are used both internally (e.g. evaluations, target agreements, development agreement) and externally (e.g. intellectual capital statement).
To be able to enter data into the FLD, you need your own access authorization. We offer training courses for correct data entry via the internal training programme.
News from the FLD
The deadline for recording research-data from 2024 is 17 January 2025. We ask all FLD-authorized persons to record all relevant activities/services in the FLD by this date. Services recorded late cannot be taken into account in the legally required intellectual capital report (Wissensbilanz), which may have a negative impact on the university. We urge you to communicate this aspect within your area of responsibility!
You can find a list of the FLD types relevant to the intellectual capital reporthere.
We are constantly trying to adapt the FLD to the changing requirements of a modern research information system. As part of this, work has begun in recent months on a major re-organization of the FLD. One of the aims of this project is to make the FLD easier and more efficient to use, especially when it comes to recording data. We will keep you informed about relevant changes and innovations in this context here.
The FLD types listed below will no longer be continued after the end of the recording period for research activities/services from 2024. Entries of these types already recorded in the FLD will of course remain visible, but it will no longer be possible to enter further records.
- Journal Article (Meeting-Abstract)
- Proceedings Article (Abstract)
- Research Report (Commissioned Research)
- Lecture at Appointment Procedure
- Journal Article (Correction: Self-Correction)
Services of the FLD types ‘Journal Article (Meeting-Abstract)’ and ‘Proceedings Article (Abstract)’ are based on activities at scientific events (lecture, poster presentation, etc.) that are already mapped in the FLD. Proceedings contributions that exceed the scope of a pure abstract (extended abstracts, full papers) can in future be included under the types ‘Proceedings Article’ or ‘Journal Article (Proceedings Paper)’.
In most cases, reports related to commissioned research are not publicly accessible and therefore cannot be validated. Commissioned research projects are recorded via the project database and automatically entered into the FLD, which means that services in this area remain mapped. Publicly accessible research reports (a link must be available) can be recorded as Electronic Publications.
The type ‘Lecture at Appointment Procedure’ will no longer be continued. In the case of an evaluation, corresponding achievements can be included in the self-assessment report.
The type ‘Journal Article (Correction: Self-Correction)’ will be discontinued.

Research information database
In the publicly accessible internet portal of the FLD you can inform yourself about the broad spectrum of research activities (limited to publications and lectures) of the University of Innsbruck.
VIS:online "My research"
In "My Research", all data stored in the Research information database and in the project database of the University of Innsbruck are available for the individual scientist(s). With the help of the application, all members of the University of Innsbruck for whom data has been recorded in the Research information database or the project database can access, filter and export their data in various formats.
