Research interests

I view metamorphic rocks as dynamic rocks undergoing mineralogical as well as textural transformations as a function of P, T, X and time. Therefore, my primary research interest is to conduct broad, interdisciplinary metamorphic petrological research to put tight constraints on these transformations in the frame of geodynamic concepts. I achieve this goal by combining field petrology of metamorphic rocks and ore deposits with experimental investigations (piston-cylinder experiments) on natural rocks as well as synthetic phases. As an extension I also apply these petrological concepts to the study of technical and archaeological materials. Together this research allows me to bridge between the fields of crystalline geology, mineralogy, petrology, ore geology, geochemistry, material sciences and archaeometry. Latter research is conducted in the frame of the research centre HiMAT (The History of Mining Activities in the Tyrol and Adjacent Areas) which bridges between natural sciences and the humanities at the University of Innsbruck.
