About us
Physics provides the scientific fundament for understanding nature and for important technological innovations. Basic insights and important discoveries in physics have strongly impacted our society in many different respects, as the examples of electricity, electromagnetic waves, X-rays, the transistor, the laser, and magnetic resonance imaging impressively show. In the future, we can expect many new achievements ranging from deep fundamental insights on our universe to novel applications based on modern quantum technologies.
The Innsbruck Physics Research Center is committed to carry out excellent, worldwide competitive research addressing a broad range of modern topics in physics. The Center is organized along three main research areas: Astro- and Astroparticle Physics, Ion- and Applied Physics, and Quantum Physics. The Center is strongly linked to many research institutions worldwide and provides a truly international environment for researchers from all over the world.
For students the Center offers a great variety of possibilities for high-level education and training. The research experience in a high-technological environment offers physicists excellent opportunities for future employment not only in academic research, but also in many other sectors.
